Many homeowners are looking for ways to reduce maintenance and work in the garden, some trying to find ways to blend the inside of the house to the outside by using outdoor living styles – but what about the other people trying to attract wildlife into the garden? These are some ways which can help.
· Try creating a water source, this can be a small water feature or a large pond – it’s totally dependent on the size of the area as well as what would fit in without looking silly. This will attract amphibians, be sure to have some shrubbery surrounding for cover and so that wildlife can approach.
· Plant some trees and shrubs! The flowers, fruits and leaves of wild cherry feed a variety of bees, caterpillars, birds and mammals including blackbird, mice and even badgers. If you have a smaller space, try dogwood, which feeds insects, mammals and birds. Or dog rose provides nectar for insects and fruit for birds like redwings and waxwings.
· Use bird feeders, these will attract a huge variety of birds as well as sometimes squirrels and other animals. These can be a great cost effective and simple way of bringing wildlife into your garden.
