Top 5 Tips To Maintaining The Life Of Your Patio

As we move through the seasons throughout the year it is important to look after the outdoors of our homes such as your patios. Below Reshape Landscapes has listed their top 5 tips to maintaining the quality and longevity of your patios:

Tip 1: Regularly Brushing

Regularly brushing your patio helps clear off dirt, debris and prevents seed germination. If you haven’t brushed your patio in a while and small weeds start to appear a good brush will break these down and stop them from growing further or spreading across your patio.

Tip 2: Power Washing

Even after regular brushing of your patio some marks can still be apparent therefore, a more thorough clean can be necessary occasionally. You can use warm soapy water to wash your patio and remove unwanted marks or if you own a pressure washer you can quickly give your patio a deep clean. However, be sure to work over them slowly and take care around the joint areas where the high pressure may break off or damage the cement.

Tip 3: Frequent Weeding

If your patio has damaged cement or wide gaps in between then you’ll need to weed regularly to prevent over growing. Always remove the weeds at their roots to prevent them from growing back.

Tip 4: Fill Joints

When removing weeds from joint areas sand is removed as well which needs to be refilled or you’ll risk getting more weeds or uneven paving slabs.

Tip 5: Seal Your Patio

Finally, to fully protect your patio you could invest in a patio sealer. Patio sealers help prevent moisture from seeping in and damaging the patio slabs. There’s a vast range on the market and the wrong one can damage the surfaces so read the labels and choose carefully! You’ll still need to carry out the steps before and you’ll need to reapply the seal every few years depending on manufacturers recommendations.
