As we enter the Summer of 2021, it is key to look after your lawn as much as possible. Below Reshape Landscapes has listed all the key steps everyone needs to complete as much as they can in order to see their grass thrive.
Tip 1: Mow Regularly
You should aim to cut your lawn once a week during summer and once every two weeks in spring. Regularly mowing your lawn encourages roots to spread which can help fill gaps and block weeds.
Tip 2: Water Your Lawn
Always give your lawn a light water to keep it hydrated, but be careful not to over water and cause the lawn to flood as this will discourage lawn growth
Tip 3: Weed Your Lawn
Weeds such as dandelions, butter cups and clovers largely spread over your lawn which discourages the growth of your grass. Using a hand trowel to dig them up or racking them before you cut your grass makes it easier to mow them up. Try to avoid weed killer as this doesn’t help encourage grass growth. Scarifying your lawn once or twice a year can help prepare the lawn for summer, this is usually done whilst cutting the lawn.
Tip 4: Relieve Compact Grass
If your lawn has compacted grass this can lead to bare patches in the summer and mud baths in the winter. Relive the compactness by pushing a garden fork 15 cm into the lawn every 15cm and gently push and pull the fork back and forth. This will open up the soil allowing the roots to breathe and obtain the water better. This will overall encourage grass growth. This is called lawn aeration and can improve the overall health of your lawn dramatically.
Tip 5: Edge Your Lawn
Finish your lawn off with the perfect hair cut by trimming the sides through the use of some long-handled shears. This stops grass growing into your boarders as well as giving your lawn the perfect finish.
Tip 6: Feed Your Lawn
To keep your lawn being the best in your neighbourhood you’ll need to feed it regularly. You can do this by purchasing some lawn feeder which you need to spread evenly across your lawn. Make sure to spread the feeder onto your lawn when it is scheduled to rain, this will help the lawn obtain the nutrients from the food.
